El Segundo’s Story

The City of El Segundo is known as the ‘Aerospace Capital of the World’, so they needed a system as cutting edge as the technology they are famous for.

Unfortunately, their bus system was outdated with routes that no longer met the needs of its 17,000 citizens.

The city’s transport team turned to Swoop to create an innovative, trackable busing program that would modernize the system, save costs, and reduce traffic. Just what every city needs!

Outdated Technology and Inefficient Routes

Challenge

The city’s bus system relied on old technology—this meant they were working around ineffective routes, which led to citizen dissatisfaction and high operational costs.

They needed a transportation system to streamline time and money and—crucially—boost resident satisfaction.

Swoop's Response

Swoop took the time to listen to all the city’s concerns and use real-time data from residents to build a picture of the current transport system and identify priorities. Our team then re-designed the entire bus system using key data to craft optimized routes.

Finally, the team implemented new tracking technology to allow users to see bus locations in real time, improving both efficiency and peace of mind for everyone involved.

Rising Costs and Traffic Congestion

Challenge

Not only did the city’s outdated system mean inefficiency and lack of clarity for citizens, but it also resulted in high fuel consumption and traffic congestion due to poor route planning.

Issues like this can have a negative knock-on effect on everyone in the city as well as the environment as a whole.

The result was a more efficient system with the El Segundo Connect program launched in June 2023.
